VMWARE error

Unable to open kernel device "\\.\VMCIDev\VMX": Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. Did you reboot after installing VMware Player?
Module DevicePowerOn power on failed.

The easy workaround is to simply set in the vmx-file of all your VMs

vmci0.present = "false"

You will never ever need VMCI as most of the users.

Instaling Windows on Centos – Error no CD ROM

Posted by root on Saturday Jun 4, 2011 Under Bash, Centos, Virsh, VM

I lost about 20 hours trying to install windows on our dedicated server runing Centos.

We found many people having this problem that after intial bootup cdrom wouldn’t work. I was incially booted but after that windows couldn’t install.

The solution is to dump the code bellow on xml config file for that VM.

<disk type='block' device='cdrom'>
<driver name='qemu' type='raw' io='native'/>
<source dev='/dev/sr0'/>
<target dev='hdc' bus='ide'/>
<address type='drive' controller='0' bus='1' unit='0'/>

Replace dev for your iso.

Then do the command define.

virsh define /etc/libvirt/qemu/xpsb.xml
